This blog takes its name from the original Adam— the man from the red soil. “Adam” is a name with Hebrew and Akkadian origins and is derived from the root words for the color red, the soil of the earth, and the verb, “to make.” In the beginning, God took into his hands the red soil from the ground he had made; from it, he made man— and called him Adam, with whom I share the name.

I’m Adam Vega. I am a Christian, a husband to Sarah, and a home-schooling father of three boys.

I joyfully worship and serve as pastor with Mercy’s Door Community Church in the small town, military, Midwest context of Mascoutah, IL, USA, just outside Scott Air Force Base in the Metro East sprawl of St. Louis. My roots are in the Berkshire foothills of western Massachusetts and the southwest suburbs of Chicago. I love the Lord, my family, church, and city.

I have been saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. I have been united with Christ in His life, death, and resurrection through faith freely gifted to me by the power of the Holy Spirit based on no merit of my own.

My doctrinal convictions are within the Evangelical, Protestant, Reformed, and Baptist vein. I believe that the highest authority on matters of Christian faith and practice is the Lord’s revelation to the Church through the Holy Scriptures.

It is primarily about moving inward thought into outward expression. As I interact with the day and hour in which the Lord has placed me, I hope to navigate it out loud with a heart of worship and a mind for meaningful engagement with the work of Christ in my generation.
